2012... THERE IS AN END!
Dear Friends,
Assuredly, the year 2012 is on a countdown to become history. But, not your expectations and hope. "For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off" - Proverbs 23:18.
Be thankful, because whatever dreams, and desires or prayers that were not fulfilled in 2012, can still be met in 2013 and beyond. The important thing is to remain focused and connected to God - our source. Dreams and expectations are birthed and realized in His presence, and so I urge you to be in His presence on the midnight watch today.
Find a good church near you and fellowship with the brethren and let God hear your prayers. You are equally welcome to our candle light service today; 9 p.m. prompt @ CHAPEL OF DESTINY RESTORATION CHURCH, 2 Akinlabi Lane, off Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, by Round About Bus Stop, Ikeja. Lagos.
See you in 2013!
P SQUARE & DJ JIMMY JATT DAZZLE @ HIGH IMPACT RELOADED!
Dear Friends,
Find a brief report on High Impact Reloaded, Solution Media and Infotech’s year- end concert on 28/12/12. It’s part of our mandate to feature best practices in entertainment and show business….
Held at Landmark Park, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos; the show was a visual and aural experience. Of note was DJ Jimmy Jatt, who, once again proved the master he is.
P Square, undoubtedly the stars of the night, thrilled with good lyrics, superlative dance routines and movements; and yes, they played the guitar! The lyrics in particular were realistic and meaningful. Covering almost all sphere of life, the inspiring lyrics took the audience through their rags to riches journey based on the principles of hard work, consistency and focus.
With a number of other acts thrown in, High Impact Reloaded was a great show…. even if I say so! Kudos to Solution Media. We hope to see more of such shows in 2013!

BASIL CHINATU CHUKWUEZ I – A PROFILE
Dear Friends,
One of the things I promised on my blog before the year ends, is a profile of myself. I am keeping that promise, hoping that it will bring us closer to a working relationship towards achieving the objectives of kingdom entertainment! May we meet in the new year, 2013…
Basil graduated best of class in his set at Department of Theatre Arts, University of Calabar, Nigeria, and did youth service at the National Arts Theatre, Lagos. After a brief stint in insurance and journalism, he cut his management teeth through the competitive eighteen-month management trainee programme in Unilever Nigeria Plc (then Lever Brothers Nigeria Limited). He stayed on for another two years as District Sales Manager, Lagos, before joining the banking industry.
For over a decade, within which he acquired an MBA, Management, from ESUT Business School, Lagos; he worked in a number of front line Nigerian banks including Fidelity Bank Plc, First Bank of Nigeria Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc. Always in the customer facing function, his banking experience spanned consumer, corporate and commercial concerns; with key competences in multinationals, shipping and maritime. A thorough bred relationship management, credit, sales and marketing professional, he left banking in 2009, to pursue his private business, focused on oil and gas, real estate, logistics and entertainment.
Basil Chukwuezi is an ordained Pastor, and most importantly has dedicated the rest of his life to the services of God and humanity through Christian Pentecostal ministry and promotion of kingdom entertainment. He has a calling to revolutionize and position entertainment as a medium of enjoyment for Christians and relationship with their Creator. His belief is that Christians should enjoy an all round prosperity(3 John 1:2).

GOODBYE 2012, WELCOME 2013…. WELL, ALMOST!
Dear Friends,
No doubt, you had such a great time on Christmas day, with family, friends and loved ones. You are also looking forward to a prosperous new year, 2013. I, too.
But there’s a basic exercise I would equally want us to indulge this season. That is taking stock of the year 2012, on one hand, and on the other planning and projecting into 2013. The year 2012 is almost gone, and there’s not much we can do about it, but to analyze and see how we fared in it. We can then be in a better position to anticipate and attack the New Year with focus and vigor. I am not a great fan of football, but as with it and other games, I know that the best form of defense is attack. The attack is not as with one who boxes the air, but one that is from a standpoint of knowledge; that of your strengths, weaknesses as well as your opponent’s….
The best source of this knowledge is God, and the means to receive it, I recommend, is in His presence. Is it possible that we can shut down all the noise - well almost all – the mobile phone, earphone, movies, television, cars, airplanes and private jets etc; and plug into God? I mean spend some quiet time and ask Him real good questions (Matt. 7:7): why some of your prayers in 2012 were answered and some not, some answered in a different way from what you wanted, what He has in stock for your in 2013 in the areas of family, work, business, ministry and so on. What is the time frame, you ask? At least 24 hours. Not so difficult to totally devote one day out of three hundred and sixty-five to Him – for your own good!
Well, by His grace I just did that. On the morning of 26th December, after the merriment of Christmas day, I checked into the conference centre of Foursquare Gospel Church in a suburb of Lagos, Nigeria. It is a prayer camp of sorts with good accommodation facilities. I had, as fiction writers will say “cased the joint” a week before. I mean, located the place and actually looked at what they had on the ground. This meant of course that I was resolute to make the trip on due date. And it was a fruitful and rewarding date with God. No food, no water until I got home the next day, in prayer and meditation, I opened up to Him the various areas of my life and sought directions as well as answers. I came out with clear directions (And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left - Isaiah 30:21). Armed with His blueprint, I am in a better position to attack the year 2013…
Friends, you may not check into any fancy conference facility or prayer ground, your bed room will do! New Year resolutions and wishes are popular, cross over services are good, but a one on one meeting in quiet with God is perhaps all you need to learn from the experiences of 2012, and make a great success out of 2013. You still have some hours between now and 31st December. Why not use it, wherever you are?

TAKE A STAND PART 3 – MY STAND!
Dear Friends,
I do hope that in whatever corner of the globe you are, earnest preparations are being made to celebrate Christmas. Of course Christmas is possible because Jesus Christ was born with a mandate to save humanity; and he took the stand and fulfilled that calling!
Today, as I promised in the last post, I will attempt to share my stand with you. No doubt, if you have followed my blog from inception, or even somewhere in the middle, you would have got a hang on what side of the divide I belong to; entertainment wise. Don’t be surprised to see some of the views I have expressed earlier; I will only try to rearrange them.
I stand for kingdom entertainment (the term, gospel entertainment is a bit restrictive) - one that truly entertains, inspires, edifies, and does not conflict with your faith. Take note also that entertainment is used in a broad sense to include amongst others, expressions in fashion, drama, comedy, music, video, cinema, books, magazines, poetry, spoken words, fine arts etc. Kingdom entertainment recognizes the truth that entertainment is a creation of God; and everything made by Him is very good (Genesis 1:31). It is important that we strive to live the very good life and produce things that are equally good. Of greater importance is that we should employ only God’s standard as a benchmark for what is good, whether in entertainment or other fields of endeavor!
No doubt, entertainment is part of our present, and future. If the future must be preserved, then we need entertainment that can bring about positive change and help us in nation building. We need songs and lyrics that inspire and also entertain. We need music videos that tell a good story. We need dance that is proudly Nigerian, nay African. We need jokes that are clean, funny and help us make necessary changes in our life. And yes, we need fashion and clothes that cover.
These are some of the entertainment objectives I stand for. And as far back as 2006, my organization, Edensquire Entertainment, set out to achieve them through a funfair for children. We continued between 2007 and 2009, with the platform of our headline Valentine show – Love Bananas. Held the Sunday following the Valentine’s Day, Love Bananas showcased the best of inspiring music, dance and comedy. The maiden edition held at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, was heralded by Julius Agwu and Buchi. We have in the course of the show featured such fine artistes and comedians as Segun Obe, Tosin Martins, Gordons, Kofi, amongst others. We have had the privilege of working closely with Dj Gosporella over the years. Our dream of owning a radio/television station is being made easier by internet platforms. And along the way, we have attracted like minds and destiny helpers who consistently encourage and walk with us on the journey.
While the foregoing is a brief summary of what I stand for, the fact remains that it requires a team work to succeed. You can encourage and play an active role in its realization in any way you are laid to. If so do not hesitate to contact me. Next week, I will give a snippet of my profile, which hopefully will assist your consideration…..
As we celebrate Christmas, I can only encourage you to develop a better relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the reason for the season! PORT HARCOURT, MUBI, CONNECTICUT: WHAT'S THE CONNECTION?
Dear Friends,
The story below is reported verbatim from Yahoo! News. Do you see any parallels from my post earlier today!Draw your own conclusions, but it sure is scary!
Connecticut school shooting suspect was honours student who lived in prosperous neighbourhood
By Pete Yost And Jason Keyser, The Associated Press | Associated Press – 8 hrs ago
WASHINGTON - He was an honours student who lived in a prosperous neighbourhood with his mother, a well-liked woman who enjoyed hosting dice games and decorating the house for the holidays. Now Adam Lanza is suspected of killing his mother and then gunning down more than two dozen people, 20 of them children, at a Connecticut grade school before taking his own life. The 20-year-old may have suffered from a personality disorder, law enforcement officials said.
Investigators were trying to learn as much as possible about Lanza and questioned his older brother, who is not believed to have any involvement in the rampage.
Lanza killed his mother at their home before driving her car to Sandy Hook Elementary School and — armed with at least two handguns — carried out the massacre, officials said. A third weapon, a .223-calibre rifle, was found in the car, and more guns were recovered during the investigation.
So far, authorities have not spoken publicly of any possible motive. They found no note or manifesto, and Lanza had no criminal history.Witnesses said the shooter didn't utter a word.Lanza's aunt said her nephew was raised by kind, nurturing parents who would not have hesitated to seek mental help for him if he needed it.
Marsha Lanza, of Crystal Lake, Ill., said she was close with Adam Lanza's mother and sent her a Facebook message Friday morning asking how she was doing. Nancy Lanza never responded.Marsha Lanza described Nancy Lanza as a good mother and kind-hearted.
If her son had needed counselling, "Nancy wasn't one to deny reality," she told The Associated Press late Friday.Marsha Lanza said her husband saw Adam as recently as June and recalled nothing out of the ordinary about him.
Catherine Urso, who was attending a vigil Friday evening in Newtown, Conn., said her college-age son knew the killer and remembered him for his alternative style.
"He just said he was very thin, very remote and was one of the goths," she said.
Adam Lanza belonged to a technology club at Newtown High School that held "LAN parties" — short for local area network — in which students would gather at a member's home, hook up their computers into a small network and play games. Gloria Milas, whose son Joshua was in the club with Lanza, hosted one of the parties once.
She recalled a school meeting in 2008 organized by the gunman's mother to try to save the job of the club's adviser. At the meeting, Milas said, Adam Lanza's brother Ryan said a few words in support of the adviser, who he said had taken his brother under his wing."My brother has always been a nerd," Ryan Lanza said then, according to Milas. "He still wears a pocket protector."
Joshua Milas, who graduated from Newtown High School in 2009, said Adam Lanza was generally a happy person but that he hadn't seen him in a few years.
"We would hang out, and he was a good kid. He was smart," Joshua Milas said. "He was probably one of the smartest kids I know. He was probably a genius." Lanza and his mother, Nancy, lived in a well-to-do part of Newtown, a prosperous community of 27,000 people about 60 miles northeast of New York City.A grandmother of the suspect — who is also the mother of Nancy Lanza — was too distraught to speak when reached by phone at her home in Brooksville, Fla."I just don't know, and I can't make a comment right now," Dorothy Hanson, 78, said in a shaky voice as she started to cry. She said she hadn't heard anything official about her daughter and grandsons. She declined to comment further and hung up.
A law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said investigators believe Lanza attended the school several years ago but appeared to have no recent connection to the place. At least one parent said Lanza's mother was a substitute teacher there. But her name did not appear on a staff list. And the law enforcement official said investigators were unable to establish any connection so far between her and the school.Adam Lanza's older brother, now 24 and living in Hoboken, N.J., was being questioned, a law enforcement official said. He told authorities that his brother was believed to suffer from a personality disorder, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record about the unfolding investigation. The official did not elaborate, and it was unclear exactly what type of disorder he might have had.
Ryan Lanza had been extremely co-operative and was not under arrest or in custody, but investigators were still searching his computers and phone records. Ryan Lanza told law enforcement he had not been in touch with his brother since about 2010.
Brett Wilshe, a friend of Ryan Lanza's, said he sent him a Facebook message Friday asking what was going on and if he was OK. According to Wilshe, Lanza's reply was something along the lines of: "It was my brother. I think my mother is dead. Oh my God."
Adam Lanza attended Newtown High School, and several local news clippings from recent years mention his name among the school's honour roll students. Lanza's parents filed for divorce in 2008, according to court records. His father, Peter Lanza, lives in Stamford, Conn., according to public records, and he reportedly works as a tax director for General Electric. A neighbour in Newtown, Rhonda Cullens, said she knew Nancy Lanza from monthly get-togethers the neighbourhood women had a few years back for games of bunco, a dice game."She was a very nice lady," Cullens said. "She was just like all the rest of us in the neighbourhood, just a regular person."
Cullens recalled that Lanza liked to garden and to make her house look nice for the holidays. Lanza joked, though, that no one noticed because the house was out of view, up a hill, she said.
Sandeep Kapur, who lives two doors down from the Lanza family in Newtown, said he did not know them and was unaware of any disturbances at the Lanza house in the three years that he and his family have been in the neighbourhood. He described the area as a subdivision of well-tended, 15-year-old homes on lots of an acre or more, where many people work at companies like General Electric, Pepsi and IBM. Some are doctors, and his next-door neighbour is a bank CEO, said Kapur, a project manager at an information technology firm."The neighbourhood's great. We have young kids, and they have lots of friends," he said. "If you drive past this neighbourhood, it gives you a really warm feeling."

TAKE A STAND (PART 2 – THE UNIPORT 4 & MUBI +40 )
Captain Thomas Sankara
Dear Friends,
I will like to personally congratulate you for having made it thus far in the year and to again, wish you a merry Christmas and happy new year in advance.
In my blog post on Take A Stand (Part 1), I had argued for the requisite affirmative action to back up any position or stand we take on an issue, and ended with a reference to my friend who is working to realize his dream of revolutionizing supermarket shopping experience in Nigeria. I hope, with his permission, to devote some posts to that concept when he opens his doors shortly! For the remaining weekends to the end of this month and year, commencing from today, this is what I propose to focus on in the blog: give a few more examples of those who took a stand, emphasize my own stand and your possible role in it, and then let you have a brief profile of who I am…..
Taking a stand on an issue or a dream is by no means an easy venture – it takes guts, determination, tenacity, sacrifice and faith. It requires one to give up their comfort zone and throw their hat into the ring of uncertainty and prospect of failure, yet the heart is resolute to overcome all odds. The anticipated victory at the end of the contest is what pushed President Obama, a black, originally from Kenya, to go for the White House, not once, but twice! Before him, Rosa Park refused to give up her bus seat to whites and thus set a definitive force in motion for the Civil Rights Movement in America. Nelson Mandela endured 27 years in a solitary prison cell ensconced in Robben Island, and came out to become the first black president in post-apartheid South Africa. Today the world stands to attention, if he so much does a simple task of going in for medical check -up! The glory of success overshadows the pain and agony of taking a stand. Sometimes, people have paid with their lives, like Martin Luther King, Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara, etc; but it does not stop us from coming forward.
It is not only in the hallowed political and economic affairs that one can take a stand. It may just be on such a basic issue as how we raise our children, or the ability to keep an issue on the front burner until a solution is found or justice is done. This brings me to a recent issue that reached boiling point and headed for the gaseous state in our nation, Nigeria – the dastardly lynching of four UNIPORT students by a mob, whether pre-meditated or spontaneous. This incidence, I hope in no way pales into insignificance, the murder of over 40 students in three institutions in Mubi, North Eastern Nigeria. In either case, young lives - students, future leaders - are taken wantonly. These acts are highly atrocious and portend ominous consequences for our nation, if unchecked.
Beyond the initial public outrage and usual government statements, what other force, legitimate and civil, can we muster not only to bring the culprits to book, but to forestall such incidence in the future. While not neglecting the immediate direct actions, perhaps, the more effective path will be to take a stand on the children we are raising these days. The bandits that murdered the students at Mubi were not spirits, they were raised in homes. So also the mob that set ablaze fellow human beings - students the community should be protecting, rather than destroy. What future generation are we raising – is it one that has regard for the sanctity of human life or the one that under the guise of religion, culture, or sheer apathy, destroy another life?
These issues run deeper than meets the eye, and apart from the physical solutions, the ultimate answer lies in divine intervention which is guaranteed by a relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Let us take a stand to raise a godly generation that respects the sanctity of life. TAKE A STAND (PART 1)
Dear Friends, I am really sorry for my recent absence from the blog. I say this because I was beginning to enjoy writing, and was equally encouraged by the responses of many of you. As a matter of fact, my writing skills abandoned for many years, in pursuit banking and other careers was again burgeoning. When I posted the blog on 360° Life, I thought I had got my schedules balanced and could continue writing on a regular basis whilst taking care of other issues of human existence….
You’d probably remember my blog on “What’s Your Dream?” (You can refresh @ the archives). “Take A Stand”, may probably sound alike, except that we are going on a slightly different tangent. When you take a stand, you are making known your view, opinion, or what side of the divide you belong in an argument or issue. However, I do not believe in taking a stand just for the sake of it. I am of the view that beyond making our voice known on an issue, we should go further to take an affirmative action to actualize what we believe or want. You might say it is easier said than done. But if you agree with a simple understanding of Newton’s Law of Motion that every object is at a point of rest until a force greater than or equal is applied to it, then you will appreciate the need for affirmative action. When at the beginning of this year, Nigerians woke up to a dubious new year present of increase in fuel prices, a force called “Occupy Nigeria” was mobilized and at the end of the day there was at least a compromise, in that the increase did not go as far as initially announced; with some other palliatives thrown in.
I am looking forward to such force applied to other areas of national discuss and growth. Let me make some suggestions. If we believe politicians are inept and stealing money, let us mobilize forces that will either impeach the impeachable ones, or make sure they don’t win elections again; or stop the appointment of those chosen by the executive to run various ministries and departments. Also of importance, let those who believe they have the answer make themselves available for public office. (Don’t tell me politics has been hijacked; take a lesson from President Obama!) If we believe that fashion today is tending towards half naked and half dressed (in some of the so called advanced societies, Nudists have taken their cause to the parliament!), perhaps we can open a cloth line that promotes the ideal we desire, and yet attractive. If we believe that music and accompanying videos have become lyrical and visual pornography, what options are we offering?
My friend, who challenged me to take a stand on my blog, has made known his stand to revolutionize supermarket shopping experience and has taken affirmative action towards the realization. He has quit his job in Nigeria’s foremost bank, acquired a long lease on a high street property, and is busy remodelling it to suit the type of supermarket offering he is proposing!...... (Look out for Take A Stand (Part 2).
When all is said, you require a relationship with God to take a stand and succeed in the affirmative action to realize it. To find out more about God and how you can have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, visit any Bible believing church near you, or: CHAPEL OF DESTINY RESTORATION CHURCH, 2 Akinlabi Lane, off Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, by Round About Bus Stop, Ikeja. NOVEMBER MONTH!
Friends, a belated welcome to the month of November. No matter what part of the earth you reside in, or whatever natural and human induced challenges you are going through, it sure feels good to be alive. This is why the sanctity of life must be cherished and preserved by all. Having said that, in this eleventh month of the year, may all your pending transactions, hopes and aspirations, receive a speedy accomplishment through divine favour.

Enjoy Life, 360° …. It’s Possible!
Justin Horrocks/Getty Images Stock
Friends, I would love so much to post a blog everyday on Kingdom Street! And it’s quite possible. The only thing though, is that some other issues may suffer. For instance, I probably would not be able to drive, as much as I want to, the execution of a contract just awarded to my firm to build a branch for a prime Nigerian bank. I may miss some schedules with the engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and other such professionals on the team. The required funding for the project may not be released on time except I followed up with my bankers and insurance brokers. My beat at my local church may endure some deficiency of attention; and back home I need to keep up the communication channel with my wife and children; and in fact arrange a much anticipated trip for her. Perhaps you may find this picture very trivial; but that is a peek into the daily schedules we all face. Modern management calls it multi-tasking … the need to handle and play different roles and be the best at each! An all –round, success, you would say.
The other side of the coin is the possibility to live a “triangular” life, or as a matter of fact be regarded as a “triangular” person. So we have a triangular student – class, canteen, hostel; triangular Christian – work, church, home, all not necessarily in that order. The probability exists that the triangular student could make a first class, and the triangular Christian will make Heaven, which is not only desirable, but the ultimate for us as children of God. However, triangular life is one of limitation. The reason is that while it allows excellence and promotion in a particular area, one is found deficient in other but equally important issues of life. This is why we have a public success being a private failure; a very good wife being a poor mother; an excellent boss being a poor husband. Such men have reached the pinnacle of political power both in their nation and the world, but made poor choices in relationships with the opposite sex; others had successful acting and political careers, but had their marriage end in divorce due to affairs they should not have entered in the first place. At the peak of their individual successful careers, spouses have “grown apart” and missed the enduring joy of a blessed marriage. A triangular person is a friend to treasure, but a son or daughter that brings reproach. The triangular life also manifests when we are so rich towards the things of the world, but poor towards God or things of God. That is why the Bible asks the question, “ For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).
But Friends, the 360° life is possible. In fact it is a reality, which the devil recognizes, and questions God about in Job 1:10. It is the life that ensures all round good success and all round enjoyment. That life is also found in 3 John 1:2. God desires that we prosper in every good area, whilst our soul and spirit also prosper. The choice is yours to make – a triangular life or 360° life.
To choose right, and obtain the grace to achieve that choice, you need the help of God which only comes through a relationship with Him. MUHAMMED ALI VS PASTOR E.A. ADEBOYE... ON WOMEN'S DRESSING!
Muhammad Ali's advice to his daughters..............Inspiring An incident transpired when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing.
Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day. My father took a good look at us.Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You've got to work hard to get to them.”
He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too.” #### Little wonder the Lord said the people of the world are wise in their own ways...WHAT ARE THE DAUGHTERS OF ZION( or are they just 'so called daughters') doing?
Friends, today’s post has been made so simple for me. You recall, on “The Future of Entertainment” (see my blog archives), I had said amongst other things, that “… we need fashion and clothes that cover…. Of greater importance is that we should employ only God’s standard as a benchmark for what is good!”
My post is made very simple because I will now ride on the back of Pastor E.A. Adeboye, a great father in the land, revered around the globe, to further amplify these views. I have reproduced verbatim below, or rebroadcast, if you will, his devotional piece of Friday October 12, 2012 ( I recommend the devotional,” Open Heavens”, to anyone who requires a daily guide to close fellowship with God. For me, it is a required daily to do…).
“ Memorise: But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:4 (Read: Isaiah 3:16-26).
It is one thing to be clothed physically and another one to be clothed spiritually. Like the Laodicean church, many who think they are clothed are really naked before God. The Lord told the church that with all their affluence and sophisticated clothes, they were naked. You will observe that being sparsely dressed is more common among the wealthy and enlightened. If you look at what the world regards as fashion today, particularly in the western developed countries with all their wealth and level of comfort, a greater percentage of such fashion styles tend towards nakedness. If the lady’s breasts are not exposed, that dressing is regarded as old fashioned. So much havoc has been done to the church of God in the name of fashion. Instead of the world to look to the church for healthy, sane dressing, it is the church that is looking to the world for fashion.
Copying the dress styles of the world that promotes promiscuity and nakedness is worldliness. 1 John 2:15-17 says believers in Christ must not love the world. Whatever you do in terms of dressing should not defeat the purpose for which God created it in the first place, which is to properly cover nakedness(Genesis 3:21). You will notice that Adam and Eve made themselves aprons(loin covering belt) from fig leaves to cover their nakedness(Genesis 3:7), this is synonymous to the scanty clothes of today; but God saw this as inadequate therefore He made them coats ( a long shirt-like garment). Therefore let your dressing be moderate and covering your nakedness. Look decent and presentable; glorify God in your dressing.
If you see nothing wrong with transparent or perforated clothes, or clothes which reveal your nakedness or clearly shows your laps and accentuate or emphasize the size of your buttocks, you are being carnal. In those days, believers were very mindful of their dressing so that they did not cause their brothers to stumble. But today, provocative dressing is all over the church of God. There are some churches you will go to and will be wondering whether you are in a brothel. Some sisters feel we are too hard on them and so they want to be free. Are you then walking in love, if you know what you are wearing is seductive and will cause someone else to stumble in lust? We are commanded to walk in love (Galatians 5:2); if you want to make Heaven, you have to judge your motives and actions by this standard. Judge yourself and make amends fast before God’s judgment descends on you.
ACTION POINT: Examine your wardrobe and fish out any dress that violates the code of decency. Do not give such out but destroy them”
Friends, we can easily extrapolate Pastor Adeboye’s views here to music and entertainment. We need to take a stand, we need to make a change in many areas of our lives and by so doing point the world to a better direction!
To take a stand with the corresponding action, you require the discerning spirit and grace that only come through a relationship with God. "The Bridge"..... Solution to the nation's problems!
Friends, I was privileged to watch a command performance of "The Bridge", a musical dance drama by the National Troupe of Nigeria. Held at the National Theatre, Lagos, it was perhaps a befitting contribution to the independence anniversary and celebration of nationhood at 52, whilst it sought to proffer solution to our myriad problems.
Ensconced in the belly of the Cinema Hall 2, National Theatre, on that Saturday evening, I knew as the plot unfolded, that "The Bridge" was the story of Nigeria. It told it eloquently from the platform of a man who was promoted to the position of a bank manager. However, the disturbing aspect of this promotion is his transfer to Tanfo – a failed metropolis with high level of insecurity, corruption, civil strife, rancor and power struggle amongst the people.
Against persuasions from his wife and kinsmen, he resolves to go to Tanfo, to make a change. On arrival, he witnesses all the greed and avarice associated with power play. At the end, he intervenes and is able to resolve the people’s differences. He brings a new order which ensures that everybody is given the same opportunity as the other. The desired new order of peace and harmony is enthroned in Tanfo.
"The Bridge" is a metaphorical interplay of chaos and peace, struggle and attainment, denial and opportunity, inequality and equality, disunity and unity, negative and positive, etc. usually associated with the challenges of nationhood and mutual existence. It also shows the good that can be achieved when individuals take a principled stand and backs that with affirmative action.
The production drew on the potent use of dance, songs and music as instruments of national re-orientation and transformation. It was an experiment in inter-cultural communication, enlightenment, education and entertainment. It is indeed auspicious to use Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Anniversary to spread such message of peace, tolerance, and mutual existence to break the yoke of terrorism and bloodletting now besetting the land!
On another level, the production evoked a lot of memories for me. For one, Arnold Udoka, Director, Dance, National Troupe, who wrote and choreographed "The Bridge", is a graduate of Theatre Arts, University of Calabar, from where I took the same degree, though at different times. Mike Anyanwu, Deputy Director, Dance, was in Theatre Arts, UNICAL, though he has gone on to take a Law degree and is now a barrister. Lol! He actually invited me to the event. Secondly I did the mandatory National Youth Service at the National Theatre, many years ago. It was thus a sort of home coming where I met many friends and associates in the theatre and entertainment world. The icing on the cake was meeting Sir Peter Badejo OBE, Nigeria’s dance export to the world (I hope to celebrate him soon on this blog)….
Friends, what a great joy to make a desired change, in our environment and society today. Wouldn’t it really be nice to be an instrument, an arrow head for positive change in our nation today? We seem to have graduated from the much touted corruption and ineptitude on the part of government, to wanton destruction of property and waste of human lives! The people as it were, are now killing themselves.
Apart from the physical manifestation, there is a spirit behind this extermination tendency. And the things of the spirit are best dealt through a relationship with God. He also, will give the required grace to take a stand and affirmative action. WHAT’S YOUR DREAM?... Share and pursue your dream!
Friends, dreams are essential for a triumphant earthly existence. They are divinely inspired and released( Joel 2:28) to enable us excel and make a mark during our lifetime, and I dare say, ensure that we are counted with our creator, in the hereafter. The challenge is that whereas we all have dreams, most of us stop short at that, some go on to share them, and only a few take the step of faith to pursue and actualize them. It is that last minority, which is acclaimed during, and even after their generation.
What is your dream, have you shared, and are you pursuing it? Sharing is as important as pursuit. I have heard people say that you should not share your dreams, because people will discourage, or out rightly work against the manifestation. This is easy to say, and the story of Joseph in the Bible, may give support to this view. If we assume this view is correct, it is also true that it helped Joseph to clarify his opposition – his brothers. It attracted a free transport, courtesy of the Midianite merchants, to Egypt. This meant that Joseph had left his native land to Egypt, then capital of the known world. He was no longer a local champion. Sharing that dream was what stopped him from falling into the trap of Potiphar’s wife. ( If people don’t know what you stand for, it is easy to compromise, or in the common parlance, fall for anything!). Even when he got to prison, sharing his dream, not only attracted destiny helpers, it gave him the much needed practice to horn his skills for his eventual manifestation at the palace and kingdom of Egypt.
In our contemporary world, Martin Luther King Jnr, shared, stood by and died in pursuit of his dreams, and today the world has been left a better place! Amak Igwe is living her dreams in movies, and I have not stopped to share my dream for kingdom entertainment, one that truly inspires, edifies, and does not conflict with your faith. As far back as 2006, we set out to achieve this dream through a funfair for children. We continued between 2007 and 2009, with the platform of our headline Valentine show – Love Bananas. Our dream of owning a radio/television station is being made easier by internet platforms. And along the way, we have attracted like minds and destiny helpers who consistently encourage and walk with us on the journey.
Friends, there is a seed of greatness in every one of us. Your dreams are divine vehicles to ride into and manifest this greatness. Whatever is your dream, share, pursue them – don’t allow opposition in any form to stop you!
Dreams are divinely inspired and only a relationship with God will guarantee their accomplishment. DON’T INSULT MR. PRESIDENT!
Friends, the new or so called social media has made publishing a piece of cake.
Along my checkered career, I had worked as a reporter at The Guardian newspapers, Lagos. And I remember the excitement of going out to cover an event, and coming back to craft a story; only to have it dumped for lack of space. Certainly, not that it was not good, but due to a lot of competing interests, including the almighty adverts (that pay the bills).
But in the new media, anyone with a facebook (and other such platforms) address, can log on and publish any opinion or whatever catches their fancy. Another fact is that the audience is global –wherever you have “friends”, or anywhere they google a subject. And so that has given us a license, so wantonly abused by some. Some have wished in such media that they were Americans, and that President Obama was their President. Perish the thought! He is the President of America and Americans. And the Americans would not wish your country and President were theirs.
Let us take a positive action - anytime you want to insult the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, yes that is who he is, and run down Nigeria as a nation, stop and say a prayer instead (1Timothy 2:1-2). I am certain a lot of people kept a virgil watching the first round of election debates between President Obama and the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney. How I wish we spent that virgil interceding for Nigeria! In addition to prayer, let us go further and take a confirming action. As a matter of course, impact positively, your own piece of the universe, your immediate sphere of influence. And together, we will get the leaders, and the nation we so earnestly deserve; and we will all be the better for it.
Getting the leaders we want is only possible if have a relationship with the God who has the heart of kings and queens in His hands (Proverbs 21:1) and can turn it to our favour. CELEBRATING NIGERIA @ 52 – Time for nation building, not bashing!
Friends, what a joy and privilege that we are alive to witness the 52nd independence anniversary day, week and month of our great country, Nigeria. Throughout this week and month, we will be posting a series to celebrate our nation, the people and leadership; using Mr. President as a point of contact. No matter the situation and challenges we are going through as a nation, it does call for a celebration, that against all odds, Nigeria stands, strong and vibrant.
For us, as citizens of this giant of Africa, we owe it to ourselves to celebrate Nigeria. It is a country that is flowing with milk and honey. This is evident by the rush of western democracies and other world economic blocks to partake of its goodness, under the guise of development partnerships and investments. Let us use this occasion to celebrate some of the inherent rights we enjoy as citizens of Nigeria. It is not a requirement for us to obtain a visa, nor do we need to join ourselves to another citizen to acquire residency rights. All that is ingrained in our DNA at birth, no matter the birth place. Under a democratically elected government, we also have the right to criticize our leaders, though this to a large extent is being abused. Our portion as citizens are in fact divinely assured (Isaiah 62:7b). These rights also demand some responsibilities, such as respect to constituted authority, and the contribution of our own quota to national building and development, in any capacity we have. We also need to pray for Nigeria and our leaders (1Timothy 2:1-2).
Happy independence anniversary celebration, Nigeria!
As we mark this august occasion by whatever manner, it is important to note however, that the ultimate independence comes from a knowledge and relationship with God and our Lord, Jesus Christ. If you would like true freedom and independence, visit any Bible believing church near you, or: CHAPEL OF DESTINY RESTORATION CHURCH, 2 Akinlabi Lane, off Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, by Round About Bus Stop, Ikeja. ENTERTAINMENT IS DIVINE
In my earlier post, I stated that entertainment is a creation of God. Music played and continues to play a major role in the worship of God. All through the Bible, we see instances of the use of music. For instance, its use in the fall of Jericho is common knowledge. It helped in the healing of King Saul (1 Samuel 16:23), during celebration of the return of the Ark to Jerusalem after the Philistines captured it (2 Samuel 6:15); whilst it inspired Elisha to prophesy victory to Israel (2 Kings 3:15). Many renowned western pop stars started their career from the church, and here in Nigeria, the story is very much the same. And, the reason we have “Old School” today is that they are real, inspiring and enduring music.
Satan before his fall was head of choir in heaven (Ezekiel 28:11-18). Unfortunately, he has perverted music and entertainment and is busy selling that fake to unsuspecting listeners and viewers. The fact that a fake exists, validates the original. The challenge, of course, is to have the spirit of discernment so as not to buy and enjoy the fake! In a similar manner, God has created each one of us an original, meant to fulfill a particular purpose. If we don’t find out the original purpose, it is possible to live out our life mimicking the devil, and wasting our talents.
To know and enjoy true entertainment whilst fulfilling divine purpose, you need a relationship with God. THE FUTURE OF ENTERTAINMENT
THE FUTURE OF ENTERTAINMENT
Friends, yesterday we looked at the career of DeeJay Gosporella as an example of focus on things of enduring value. Today, I would like us to also use that as a prism to review the entertainment industry.
The truth is that entertainment is a creation of God; and everything made by Him is very good (Genesis 1:31). It is important that we strive to live the very good life and produce things that are equally good. Of greater importance is that we should employ only God’s standard as a benchmark for what is good!
Working according to God’s standard is possible only if we have a personal relationship with Him. CELEBRATING FOCUS: DeeJay Gosporella & Gospel Zone @ 3
On Sunday 23rd September, a core group of friends, associates, well wishers and fans gathered round DeeJay Gosporella, as he cut the third anniversary cake of his popular Sunday morning programme on radio: Gospel Zone.
My view though, is that the occasion was more a celebration of the anchor than the programme. Through dint of hard work, tenacity and focus, the man Gosporella has achieved the status of a principality, and I mean that on a positive note, in the gospel, nay, kingdom music genre. He has stood firm on his conviction that music and entertainment can be inspiring, positive, ennobling and ultimately to the glory of God. He shunned the get rich quick route and decided, early on, to pursue the difficult but ultimately rewarding narrow street of virtue and value. He believed that music should not be a lyrical pornography where the listener is assaulted with calls to shake the posterior and other parts of the female anatomy. To him, music should have a good content, and there must be a message, both to the young and old generation.
It is not surprising that he would attract various collaborations, awards and recognitions, here at home and overseas. It was such collaborations that brought us together in 2008. My company, Edensquire Entertainment had launched a brand, Love Bananas, in 2007. Held the Sunday following the Valentine’s Day, Love Bananas showcased the best of inspiring music, dance and comedy. The maiden edition held at Shell Hall, MUSON Centre, was headlined by Julius Agwu and Buchi. It also featured Gordons, who brought Gosporella to my attention, since his focus aligned with our vision. The 2008 edition of the show, was held in the same venue, but this time in collaboration with Gosporella. Through his contacts, we had Segun Obe and Tosin Martins as headliners.
There is hardly any young contemporary Nigerian music artiste who has not come in contact or benefitted from Gosporella’s experience and advice as they sought to create their own space. For the upcoming talents, acceptance of their demo by him is a sign that they are making progress. If he does not give the demo airtime, he will at least listen and give advice. I know, because I experienced that when late last year, I gave him the demo of my teenage daughter’s CD titled “The Right Word”
As Gospel Zone marks three, we wish the programme and the anchor greater achievements in the years ahead. I have heard it said that the sky is not the limit, because there are footprints in the moon. There is no doubt that we are going to hear more from the stable of Gosporella, and who knows yours truly may still collaborate with him in some soon coming kingdom entertainment concepts!
Dear friends, as I end this post, may I ask if you have had difficulty focusing on any worthwhile venture, things of enduring value, a life-long calling that you can be remembered by? You cannot do it on your own. Ask God to help you to discover purpose, and give you the grace to focus in pursuit. But you must first have a relationship with Him.

THE BIBLE IS A TREASURE!
Friends, the Bible is good news. It is the best source ever, for good news, information and entertainment. It is the manual for life; and above all, the basis for achieving good success, here and the hereafter (Joshua 1:8).
All too often, we are caught up with buying or reading management and success books. However, if we realize that the Bible is the manual of life, and that it is God’s Word, speaking to us, “online, real time”, we will gladly connect, consult and digest it regularly. After all, we peruse the manuals of expensive phones, cars, electronics and other gadgets of modern life, in an effort to understand them and derive maximum satisfaction there from. The Bible helps us to understand the mind of our creator, so that we can live to His maximum satisfaction and achieve purpose. Do you have a Bible? Is it just an object of decoration, or do you study and meditate on it daily?

A WORTHY EXAMPLE II
Friends, permit me to sum up in five words what I learnt from Uncle Nat Okoro:
1. Perseverance
2. Trustworthy
3. Diligence
4. Faith
5. Contentment (1 Timothy 6:6-10)
As a new week dawns, let us in our individual sphere of influence, determine to make a change and be a shining example. I recommend strongly that you do not attempt this task alone. Look up the hills ( Psalms 121) and bring on the Lord, Jesus Christ.

A WORTHY EXAMPLE
Friends, yesterday I was privileged to spend three hours with a living legend and pillar of faith, Uncle Nat Okoro. I had gone to his Lekki home on an appointment regarding a particular proposed business transaction. By the time I was leaving, we had ruled out the transaction, but the lessons learnt at his feet during those three hours would last a life time. Perhaps you didn’t know, Nat C.U. Okoro was the pioneer indigenous managing director of Nigeria Railways Cooperation (1985-1987). Before then, they had general managers. All his working life, 37 years in all, were spent at the Railways; rising from the lowest of ranks to the pinnacle.
At retirement in 1987, his salary was in three digits, and the gratuity, in four digits, was further diminished when his personal loan was deducted. However, this “meager” earnings were enough to build two houses, one in his country home, and the other in Lagos; but more especially he also raised godly children who are affecting their generation today in various fields of endeavour. This may sound so farfetched today when public servants loot pension and other funds to build whole estates, and you wonder what they would do with all that money; not forgetting of course, the effect on the real owners!
Uncle Nat is 82 years, retired but not tired. He is still active in the service of God and man, consulting for clients in and outside the country (having spent 37 years in one institution, you would assume, rightly, that he eats and breathes transport). Flowing with ease from his lap top to his I Pad, you see the ready drafts of at least four books, including his autobiography, a memo to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and notes on topical issues such as terrorism.
In this age where it is difficult to find role models who owe no man (1Samuel 12:3), Uncle Nat is a shining example for us all, the stuff that deserve national honors, but above all and more importantly, belongs to the hall of fame of heroes of faith (Hebrews 11). And thank God he is still with us today and going strong! Friends let us emulate that which is noble.

GOOD NEWS
Friends, it’s another day in the land of the living. We serve a God who not only preserves us, but is ever loving and kind to forgive us our sins and shortcomings. He craves for a relationship with us and though we may have done or still do some bad stuff, His grace through the redemption of Jesus Christ freely justify us (Romans 3:22-23). But let us not take that grace for granted and so dwell in our sins. As the prodigal son, let us come back to Him, confess and repent of our sins. He will not only welcome us with open arms, but declare a feast for us! What a loving God.
