WORD DIARY: WEDNESDAY JULY 1, 2020

Enjoy the privilege to serve!..

1 Cor 9:16 Yet when I preach the gospel, I cannot boast, for I am compelled to preach. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

Do the needful!

1 Cor 9:17 If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me.

Answer the call of duty!

1 Cor 9:18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it.

Enjoy the privilege to serve!

John 18:19-20 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. "I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.

Let us pray: O Lord, give us the grace to proclaim the good news in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Do you view service as a privilege?

2.  Do you welcome such opportunity to serve?

WORD DIARY: TUESDAY JUNE 30, 2020

Cultivate the right motives!...

1 Cor 9:12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn't we have it all the more?
But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.

Focus on the good news!

1 Cor 9:13-14 Don't you know that those who work in the temple get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is offered on the altar? In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel.

Divine reward!

1 Cor 9:15 But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me. I would rather die than have anyone deprive me of this boast.

Cultivate the right motives!

John 18:18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.

Let us pray: O Lord, may our faith never grow cold in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Are you willing to pay the price for a good cause?

2.  How does making sacrifices for others change your outlook to life?

WORD DIARY: MONDAY JUNE 29, 2020

Seed time!..

1 Cor 9:8-9 Do I say this merely from a human point of view? Doesn't the Law say the same thing? For it is written in the Law of Moses: "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Is it about oxen that God is concerned?

Be established in the word of God!

1 Cor 9:10 Surely he says this for us, doesn't he? Yes, this was written for us, because when the plowman plows and the thresher threshes, they ought to do so in the hope of sharing in the harvest.

Seed time!

1 Cor 9:11 If we have sown spiritual seed among you, is it too much if we reap a material harvest from you?

Harvest time!

John 18:17 "You are not one of his disciples, are you?" the girl at the door asked Peter.
He replied, "I am not."

Let us pray: O Lord, may we not deny the faith in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Are you conscious of sewing productive seeds now?

2.  Do you expect future harvests from such seeds?

Ask for your right!....

WORD DIARY: SUNDAY JUNE 28, 2020

1 Cor 9:3 This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me.

State your case!

1 Cor 9:4-5 Don't we have the right to food and drink? Don't we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas?

Ask for your right!

1 Cor 9:6-7 Or is it only I and Barnabas who must work for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat of its grapes? Who tends a flock and does not drink of the milk?

There’s a reward!

John 18:16 But Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

Let us pray: O Lord, we receive access into your presence in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. How expectant are you for the rewards of service?

2.  Do you insist on receiving such rewards?

Postscript

Ecclesiastes 7:29 This only have I found: God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes.

God, more than earthly manufacturers, created a perfect mankind; and like every manufacturer, He gave the Bible as the manual. As we brush our teeth and eat every day, so much do we need to look into that manual for daily living and thereby prevent a malfunction inherent in seeking our many devices.

These verses and the accompanying nuggets are meant to start you out every day. But you need a personal relationship with God and the Lord Jesus Christ. It will help to contact a bible believing church near you.

WORD DIARY: SATURDAY JUNE 27, 2020

Results count!....

1 Cor 8:13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

Grace to prevent harm!

1 Cor 9:1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not the result of my work in the Lord?

The essence is what matters!

1 Cor 9:2 Even though I may not be an apostle to others, surely I am to you! For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

Results count!

John 18:15 Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard

Let us pray: O Lord, we receive grace to follow you in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Do you agree that sacrificing some privileges for others does not devalue you?

2.  How can you overcome the challenges inherent in making such sacrifices?

WORD DIARY: FRIDAY JUNE 26, 2020

Apply wisdom!....

1 Cor 8:10 For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?

Be a positive influencer!

1 Cor 8:11-12 So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.
When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

Apply wisdom!

1 Cor 8:13 Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

Pay the price for a good cause!

John 18:14 Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that it would be good if one man died for the people.

Let us pray: O Lord, we thank you for your redemptive sacrifice in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. In what ways can you apply your influence positively?

2.  How do you overcome the challenges to achieving positive influence on others?

WORD DIARY: THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2020

Set the right example!...

1 Cor 8:7 But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.

Renew your mind!

1 Cor 8:8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

Focus on what matters!

1 Cor 8:9 Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.

Set the right example!

John 18:12-13 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year.

Let us pray: O Lord arise, and fight for us in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Does your action or inaction affect others negatively?

2.  In what ways can you set the right example to others?

WORD DIARY: WEDNESDAY JUNE 24, 2020

Reject man-made gods!...

1 Cor 8:4 So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one.

Only one true God!

1 Cor 8:5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords")

Reject man-made gods!

1 Cor 8:6 Yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Live for God!

John 18:10-11 Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?"

Let us pray: O Lord, we receive grace to pay the price for destiny fulfillment in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Are there things that have taken the place of God in your life?

2.  How will you make the required changes to give God the priority?

WORD DIARY: TUESDAY JUNE 23, 2020

Love God!

1 Cor 8:1 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

Don’t stop learning!

1 Cor 8:2 The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.

Be humble to receive more!

1 Cor 8:3 But the man who loves God is known by God.

Love God!

John 18:8-9 "I told you that I am he," Jesus answered. "If you are looking for me, then let these men go." This happened so that the words he had spoken would be fulfilled: "I have not lost one of those you gave me."

Let us pray: O Lord, we thank you for divine security in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Do you find that sometimes new information is in contradiction to what you already know?

2.  Do you find it difficult to accept such new knowledge even when they hold true?

WORD DIARY: MONDAY JUNE 22, 2020

The power of commitment!..

1 Cor 7:38 So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does even better.

The power of perspective!

1 Cor 7:39 A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord.

The power of commitment!

1 Cor 7:40 In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she is — and I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

The power of choice!

John 18:7 Again he asked them, "Who is it you want?" And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth."

Let us pray: O Lord, protect us from every evil in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. In what ways has commitment helped you in overcoming life issues?

2.  How are you able to bear the cost of commitment?

WORD DIARY: SUNDAY JUNE 21, 2020

Courage of conviction!...

1 Cor 7:35 I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

Take good counsel!

1 Cor 7:36 If anyone thinks he is acting improperly toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if she is getting along in years and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.

Courage of conviction!

1 Cor 7:37 But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin — this man also does the right thing.

Courage of conviction!

John 18:4-5 Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, "Who is it you want?" "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)

Let us pray: O Lord, we receive grace for courage in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Are there decisions that require your courage of conviction to make?

2.  How do you overcome the inherent challenges with such decisions?

WORD DIARY: SATURDAY JUNE 20, 2020

Make God first!...

1 Cor 7:32 I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs — how he can please the Lord.

Please God!

1 Cor 7:33 But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world — how he can please his wife.

Make God first!

1 Cor 7:34 And his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world — how she can please her husband.

Focus on God!

John 18:3 So Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.

Let us pray: O Lord arise, and confuse our enemies in Jesus name

Life questions: 1. Amongst many demands, are you able to make God first in your life?

2.  What would you change to please God first in your life?
