God has made it expressly clear that this is our year of increase. However, the manifestation of this increase, in whatever form or shape, will depend on our hearing and receiving clear directions from God. Our knowledge, expertise and connections are no guarantees to increase. The simple instruction of Jesus to His disciples in John 21:6, to "Cast your net on the right side" was the game changer they needed after a fruitless night of fishing. They recorded such a miraculous catch of fish that they could not haul it because of the multitude of fish. While this incident took place after the resurrection of Jesus, a parallel and more dramatic occurrence was at the inception of His ministry after using Peter’s boat as a pulpit to preach (Luke 5:1-9).
This year God will be speaking and directing us, but we must be careful to hear and obey, so that our increase will manifest; as divine direction, faith, and obedience lead to abundance beyond human effort. Our God not only provides, but He also directs. As Ps 32:8 puts it “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” NKJV. The New Living Translation renders it thus: “The Lord says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” “The book of Isaiah captures it this way: “This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” Isaiah 48:17 NIV
Indeed, there are many benefits inherent in divine direction. We demonstrate our trust in God, while He straightens our paths, saves us from losses and ensures we enjoy a sustainable increase. As typified in Genesis chapter 26, Isaac would have gone to Egypt due to the famine in the land. But he obeyed God’s instruction to live in the land He showed him. In verses 12-14, we learn the outcome: “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the Lord blessed him. The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.” NIV
God has made the provision for increase this year and would also direct us on how to experience it. We need to hear not only the voice of God voice for direction, but apply and obey same in decision making for increase. The theme of our four-part series for the month of February, “Divine Direction!” will assist us in this journey of discovery. Join us this and every Sunday, on-line or in person, as we explore the theme.
