THE SPIRIT OF FAITH! – PART 2 – THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM!
Our theme for last month centered on the clarion call for harvesters to arise. In the key scripture we see Jesus commission the 72 disciples (Luke 10:1-24). But it takes faith to obey the instructions that bring harvest; and this is where the Spirit of Faith comes in. The Apostle Paul declares in 2 Cor. 4:13; "But having the same Spirit of faith, according to that which is written, I believed, and therefore did I speak; we also believe, and therefore also we speak." This verse is a declaration on the Apostle's part of the grounds of his courage and faithfulness in preaching the glorious Gospel of Christ. The circumstances which attended his proclamation of this Gospel were of the most oppressive.
We must not only believe and declare but also receive the grace to act in order to access the limitless possibilities that God has made available to us. Our glorious destinies are not achievable based on human imagination, but would fly on the wings of faith to materialize. Among the nine gifts of the Spirit is faith. It is written: “To another faith by the same Spirit…” (1 Corinthians 12:9)
What then is faith? This is how the writer of Hebrew puts it: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Heb 11:1-3). The entire Hebrew chapter 11 has been dubbed the Hall of Fame of faith as it chronicles the fathers of faith and all those who have done exploits by having utmost faith in the word of God and in walking faithfully before Him, even in the midst of daunting challenges. Perhaps, this is why the Nelson’s Bible dictionary defines faith as “belief in or confident attitude toward God, involving commitment to His will for one's life.”
Our four-part series for the month of October, "The Spirit of faith", focuses on the power of faith whether in winning souls or in seizing opportunities that help us fulfil our glorious destinies, not minding our current state. Join us this and every Sunday, onsite and online, as we explore the theme. God bless you.
