‘TREACHEROUS HEART’: DEALING WITH BOKO HARAM SANS GUNS!!

A few days ago, I sat down to dinner, with other distinguished guests at Terra Kulture, Lagos, Nigeria. Immediately after, we were treated to the first Nigerian screening of “Treacherous Heart”. Lasting about 90 minutes, the movie is perhaps, one of the best to come out of Nigeria… or at least about Nigeria and Nigerians.

Shot on location in Calgary, Canada, it explores the universal themes of love, lies, deceit, betrayal, relationships, religion, gender, cultural and generational conflicts; amongst others. The movie is centered on the lives of Nigerian immigrants and their children in Canada, but the plot encapsulates the issues currently burning in Nigeria. The good news is that, at the end of the dark tunnel, it offers hope of a brighter future hinged on love, reconciliation and forgiveness - or how would you explain that parents from the Moslem North will allow their son to marry from the Christian South and vice versa?

If the synopsis of the movie is the sign of the future, then it is indeed bright for us and our children yet unborn. This perhaps, explains why I believe that many more people should see the movie before the director and producer, Kathryn Fasegha returns to her base in Canada.  She is a trained actor, producer and director, having horned her skills at the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Calabar;  before going on to study at the London School of Journalism. Kathryn has been making compelling movies for television broadcast in her native Nigeria since 1988. With this current film project, she has not only created awareness of some of the issues faced by immigrant parents while raising their children overseas,  but has brought into sharp relief, the challenges facing us as a developing nation even here at home.

 Award Winning Director and Cast

Her strategy of clutching the original HD and Blue Ray formats of the movie and screening per location, may not give it the exposure it requires. Perhaps she is wary of the ubiquitous pirates. Pending when she does a general release, there is good opportunity for the smart brand manager or marketing communications manager of the banks, telecommunication companies, oil and gas companies or even advertising agencies to partner with her. As a corporate sponsorship or social responsibility venture, they can ensure a more diverse viewership whilst

maximizing branding at the event such created.

The Boko Haram menace may appear intractable, but the message of “Treacherous Heart” is enough to drive reason into the perpetrators and their sponsors, and hopefully convince them to lay down their arms.

In all conflicts, patience, perseverance, love and forgiveness will win the day. It is far better to rule our spirits than allow anger and hatred to rule us.

WORKERS’ DAY!!

We CELEBRATE every person doing an honest and good work all over the world.

We DENOUNCE with the strongest terms every person engaged in wanton destruction of lives and property, abduction of school girls, brazen confrontation of the principles of democracy and civilization; not leaving, of course, their sponsors.

We REJECT the workers of corruption both in private and public establishments.

We say NO to criminals of every shade including kidnappers, ritual killers, robbers, identity thieves, internet fraudsters, drug pushers, gun runners, sex and human traffickers.

We ENCOURAGE those looking for genuine work not to despair, and possibly try out their own ideas and passions. After all, most multinational businesses began as ideas and passions of individuals. I am presently trying to do so with a unique entertainment concept!

Good will always overcome evil!

HAPPY WORKERS’ DAY celebrations, my friends!!
