The
Psalmist declares, “I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well” - Ps 139:14 NKJV.
It is not just about the intricacies of the human body, but the entire universe
is a testament to the wondrous creations of God. The works of God are amazing,
extraordinary, astounding and stunning, however way we look at them.
In the
Old Testament, the manifest presence and works of God are seen, amongst others,
in His relationship with Noah, Abraham, deliverance of the Israelites from
Egyptian bondage, their sustenance in the wilderness on the way to the Promised
Land, and interventions in the nation of Israel. David acknowledges this in 1
Chron 16:8-12: “Thank God! Call out his Name! Tell the whole world who he is
and what he's done! Sing to him! Play songs for him! Broadcast all his wonders!
Revel in his holy Name, God-seekers, be jubilant! Study God and his strength,
seek his presence day and night; Remember all the wonders he performed, the
miracles and judgments that came out of his mouth” THE MESSAGE
God
continued His marvelous works in the New Testament through our Lord and His
Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus attests to this continuation in attributing His works
to what the Father does. His response to His disciples who asked that He showed
them His Father is instructive: “Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and
that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own
authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at
least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. Very truly I tell you,
whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do
even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do
whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it” - John 14: 10 -14 NIV
At the
completion of His earthly ministry, Jesus commissioned His disciples - Mark
16:17-20 “These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will
cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be
able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it
won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they
will be healed. When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was
taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right
hand. And the disciples went everywhere
and preached, and the Lord worked through them, confirming what they said by
many miraculous signs” NLT
We are
partakers of this commission and the baton of wondrous works has been delivered
to us, together with the tools to get the job done. This amongst others
includes the name of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. How are we manifesting the
mandate of the miraculous, what results are we getting, what are the
constraints? Our four-part series for the month of April, “Wondrous Works”,
focuses on the wondrous works of God and why we should continue on the
footsteps of Jesus to do wondrous works. Join us this Sunday, as we explore the
theme and conclude the series.
God
bless you.
