Prov 9:7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults; whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.

THRIVING THROUGH CHALLENGES!... PART 3 – ENLARGE YOUR TENT!

 

The Bible has a clear promise from God in Isaiah 43:2 “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” NLT. There is no doubt, the world today is going through deep water situations; and most countries are in one form of difficulty or the other. In some cases, the people are being oppressed either by government policies or natural occurrences and environmental situations.

If the above scenarios are correct, can we then say it is possible to thrive through, and in the midst of challenges? Are we not seeing the stark realities, or are we just making a statement of faith? The truth is that in the midst of these challenges, God has made a way of escape and positioned us to flourish. However, a key requirement is to develop a deeper relationship with God, so we can hear Him and receive instructions. During a famine, Isaac was tempted to relocate to another place, but God asked him to remain where he was. Following his obedience to this instruction, the Bible records that he sowed in that same land and in the same year, reaped a hundred-fold; so much so that he was envied by the Philistines (Gen. 26:1-3, 12-14). And whilst the Egyptians were suffering the plagues from God, the Israelites in Goshen were exempted (Ex. 9:25-26, 10:22-23); God can still create exemptions for His children. As dire as the COVID -19 pandemic was, it was a period that birthed great businesses that are still thriving today, and some of which have redefined the way and manner we conduct business and our daily life.

Faith is another key ingredient, if we are to thrive through challenges. While faith does not deny reality, it focuses on absolute reliance on a loving God, who can do all things. Peter did not deny he had fished all night and caught nothing. But he had faith in the instruction of Jesus and made a net-breaking catch. The account in Luke 5:4-6 is worth repeating here: “When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”  And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.” NKJV. Some Bible teachers have argued that Peter limited the size of the catch because he let down one net instead of nets as Jesus directed. Much like the way the widow in 2Kin. 4:1-7 did. The oil was limited to the number of vessels her children could borrow. For Peter, his miracle started when he allowed Jesus to use his boat, for the widow her miracle started when she took her case to Elisha. There is something for us to do, in order to thrive through this challenging times. It may just be to change our disempowering negative mentality and take on a can-do spirit that helps us maximize opportunities around us.

#Beware of punishment!

Prov 6:30-31 People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his hunger when he is starving. Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold, though it costs him all the wealth of his house.

#Beware of situational ethics!

Prov 6:32-33 But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself. Blows and disgrace are his lot, and his shame will never be wiped away.

#Beware of self-destruction!

Prov 6:34-35 For jealousy arouses a husband’s fury, and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge. He will not accept any compensation; he will refuse a bribe, however great it is.

#Life instructions!..

Prov 6:20-21 My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck.

#Cherish instructions!

Prov 6:22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you;     when you awake, they will speak to you.

#Protective instructions!

Prov 6:23-24 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.

#Life instructions!

Prov 6:25-26 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes. For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread, but another man’s wife preys on your very life.

Let us pray: Father God, protect us from destruction in the name of Jesus

#Reverence God!..

Prov 6:12-14 A troublemaker and a villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks maliciously with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up conflict.

#Avoid evil communication!

Prov 6:15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

#Consequence of evil!

Prov 6:16-17 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

#Reverence God!

Prov 6:18-19 A heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

Let us pray: Father God, may we seek to please you in the name of Jesus

#Make a move!..

Prov 6:4-5 Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids. Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

#Strive for mastery!

Prov 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

#Be prepared!

Prov 6:9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?

#Make a move!

Prov 6:10-11 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

Let us pray: Father God, we receive grace for productive engagement in the name of Jesus
