Glory, as defined by Nelson’s Bible Dictionary, is “beauty, power, or honor; a quality of God's character that emphasizes His greatness and authority”. Glory is expressed as God's moral beauty and perfection of character, which is beyond man's understanding (Ps 113:4). In the New Testament, the glory of God is shown mainly in Christ (Luke 9:29-32; John 2:11) and in the members of His church. Christ now shares His divine glory with His followers (John 17:5-6,22), and as 2 Cor. 3:18, points out, in their lives Christians are being transformed into the glorious image of God: “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image”.
There is no doubt that the glory belongs to God (Eph 1:17, Psm. 24:8-10, Psm.29:3). The believer only reflects that glory through a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is just as the moon does not have a light of its own, but reflects the light from the sun, by a correct positioning of itself. Isaiah 60: 1-2 declares: "Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you". It is a call to action, in obedience to the instructions of God; and as we established during our series in the month of October, that obedience is key to reaping the harvest of faith.
Faith in God is connected to manifestation of His glory in the life of the believer. This glory appears in seasons and stages. And in this season, God is calling us to a new level of glory. Whatever point we are in, or what journey we are going through, there is a new level of glory awaiting us. All that is required, is a diligent, intentional walk with God, while He works through us to manifest His glory: "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure" - Philippians 2:13.
Our four-part series for the month of November, "New Glory", focuses on the incremental benefits, promises and experiences of following and faithfully serving God. Join us this and every Sunday, onsite and online, as we explore the theme. God bless you.
