We serve a God of order! No wonder the Scripture says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way” (Psm. 37:23). And so as we were about to conclude the series for September, “Divine Boldness”, God gave a word that October will be “Enlarged Possibilities”. Now the month of October is here, and you are very much welcome.
What are possibilities? If God says these possibilities are enlarged, what does it mean? What is God trying to tell us? Can we see this in His word?... A possibility can be defined as the state or condition of being possible; it is anything that is possible. Be mindful of course, that we are concerned here with possibilities that are godly and positive. God sets the tone when he takes Abraham on a journey of possibilities: “The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you” (Gen 13:14-17). Jesus aligns with the inherent enormous power of possibilities; in Mathew 19:26 “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” And the apostle in 3John 1:2 offers a prayer of possibilities, “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.”
Here in Nigeria, October is auspicious because it’s the anniversary month of independence from British colonial rule. Our founding fathers must have envisioned the possibilities of an independent nation. How well the possibilities have been achieved by successive governments is a subject of debate; but then the prospects of elections in 2023, offer new possibilities. The corporate world also looks out for possibilities especially from October, being the beginning of the last quarter of the year. In fact, some organisations have what they call “October PUSH”, where they try to achieve new targets.
As a church and as individuals, what are the possibilities that God has presented, or is presenting to us? What are we doing with these abundant possibilities? How can we convert them to positive outcomes, even as the year draws to a close? October is a month of hard questions. We must ask and answer these questions and strive to turn the available gate of time to maximum advantage. Our five-part series for the month of October, “Enlarged Possibilities” is aimed at helping us answer these critical questions and position ourselves for a victorious Christian living.
