For some weeks now, our local assembly has been studying the book of Nehemiah. We have come to understand that there are basically two sides to whatever we achieve as believers: our availability and the enabling power of God. Nehemiah, when he heard the report of the condition of the remnants in Israel and the state of the temple and walls of Jerusalem, had the burden to do something about it. But he first prayed and sort the face of God. It was God who gave him favor before the king, to set out for the rescue mission and with all the resources he required. We can also surmise that there was an instruction for the moment from God as the people were willing to work. The Scripture declares in Nehemiah 4:6 KJV
“So built we the wall, and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.”
Furthermore, in verse 17 of the same chapter, we learn that “They which built on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, everyone with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.”
There is an underlying principle here, which is that in spite of the challenges, the people were united and willing to work. No wonder Psalm 110:3a says “When you go to war, your people will serve you willingly.” NLT. The KJV puts it this way: “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power”, whilst the NKJV renders it: “Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power”
No matter from which perspective we view it, God is calling on us to co-labour with Him in achieving His purposes on earth; especially in this end-time. On our own, we can do nothing, but with Him, all things are possible. We are called to seek God more than ever before. Only His input makes our input worthy. Isaiah 48:17 KJV puts it this way “Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go”.
The month of August presents a new beginning as we diligently anticipate the power of God in and through us that would have us accomplish all that the Lord has set before us. These include spiritual growth, radical soul winning, purpose alignment, kingdom advancement, productive life, and as much as the Lord would have us do. It is a season of more, and we will not be ignorant of the enabling power of God that makes a man to will and to do (Phil. 2:13). Our four-part series for the month of August, “In the Days of His Power”, would help us focus more on our relationship with God and achieve the best of His purpose for us. We invite you to join us onsite and online, this and every Sunday in August, to explore this theme.
God bless you.
