Every new beginning is a gift and opportunity from God - new year, month, age, job, project, skill, relationship, location etc. They come with excitement, yet apprehension and challenges also.
A new beginning is about hitting the ‘restart button’ on your life or an area of it that is not going too well, or that needs to be enhanced. It is about refocusing and redirecting the important things in life. It gives us the opportunity of HINDSIGHT based on our old experiences, then we add the advantage of the INSIGHT we get from investigation. A key ingredient for our NEW BEGINNING is the FORESIGHT we get from the HOLY SPIRIT who knows all things. However, the ultimate game changer is the DECISION we make to pursue and do the things that are required to maximize that new beginning and for it to MANIFEST. This is where strength and courage come to play. God has given us the grace to start and finish strong, but we must appropriate and act on it.
The Bible provides ample examples of people who started and finished strong – Nehemiah, Solomon, Apostle Paul and our Lord Jesus Christ, to mention but a few. Nehemiah, with his team, began and finished rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem in 52 days. This was in spite of the internal and external challenges he encountered (Nehemiah 6: 1-15). King Asa carried out similar feat of reforms at the encouragement of Prophet Oded (2 Chronicles 15:1-9). Following God’s commandment, David gave instructions to Solomon to build the temple:
1Chronicles 28:20 “And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord”.
And indeed, Solomon built and finished the temple (1Kings 6:14). In the New Testament, we have the testimonies of Apostle Paul and Jesus: 2Tim 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”, John 17:4 “I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”
So what have you decided to do or engage in, this month and this year that will take your life and destiny to new levels? Are there challenges that make you afraid? Are you considering backing down and succumbing to circumstances? Maybe you need the advice of Benjamin Disraeli – “Man is not the creature of circumstances; circumstances are the creatures of men”
God has given us all we need to create our own circumstances. In our four-part series for the month of February, tagged STARTING STRONG, we will be exploring how we can get the best of the NEW YEAR to enhance our ability to MANIFEST. To FINISH WELL we must START STRONG. Join us this and every Sunday as we explore the theme.
God bless you.
