20 years
ago, God arranged for me to meet your first daughter. The one I pay a poor
compliment by calling her quarter-caste (in allusion to her extraordinary beauty),
even though she is ‘Onitsha akanabo’
Then I met
you, and my life has never been the same again. You brushed every concern, and
gave your blessings for me to marry your daughter; automatically you adopted me
as your first son. It was the occasion of your 60th birthday. Today
you’re 80.
After a distinguished
nursing career, you did not tire, but working with multilateral agencies did a
lot of advocacy in public health using your consulting firm, VeroBen. You
subsequently returned to the city where you trained and in which you started your
family. Presently, you continue to serve God and humanity in the Shed charity;
feeding and giving succour to London’s inner city poor and the ‘left out’.
We thank God
for keeping and daily loading you with benefits; Bene, Grandma 3, as the
children call you (among the genealogy of the Chude girls), Minister Orefo, and
above all, the greatest and best mother-in-law in the world!
Happy 80th
birthday, Mummy! God bless you!
