As Scotland decides today, via a referendum on whether to
separate from the United Kingdom, and stand as an independent nation, I cannot
but muse over possible parallels in Nigeria. After all ours are not even united
kingdoms, but amalgamated nations courtesy of Lord Lugard!
Decision Time! (google image) |
Without prejudice to what the government will do with the
report of the just concluded national conference, can we then have an Arewa
referendum? Perhaps that will solve once and for all the current insurgency and
allow the resultant country to rule itself and decide policies that suit their
people. What about a Biafra referendum? If the civil war failed, and the MASSOB
strategy is not working, this could be the key to a peaceful resolution! This
is not forgetting other constituents of the nation called Nigeria….
Not to worry, I said at the beginning that I am just musing.
