EMAIL FRAUD WEARS ANOTHER FACE – DON’T FALL PREY!!

                                             google image

I will summarize and let you see the mail trail below for a fuller understanding. Your email is compromised and someone has access to your address book. He then sets up a similar email to yours, not exactly same, but your correct name is stated as the one to reply to in his outgoing mails.

One of the people in your address book receives the first of such mails where you asked him to sort out an urgent financial need for you and that you would give him the account details as soon as you have them (making it appear as if it is actually for someone else who is yet to provide the account details)

The same recipient then gets another mail from the sender forwarding the details provided by the supposed beneficiary, and asking him rather arrogantly, to email him as soon as he paid to enable him advise beneficiary.

To the unwary, this may appear a genuine request from a friend, acquaintance, boss etc and depending on the relationship you may act without cross checking; in which case “the mugu don fall”!!!

It is a fraud by all the definitions of the term: ignore such mails or at best personally contact the person supposedly making the request. This is what my contact did in the case below. It is the last quarter of the year and people want to make money by all means!
